Okay so my cousin just got back from Singapore last week (she went for her anniversary, been married like 3 years now) and she was telling me about all these romantic things they did at night and I’m like… wait, why didn’t I know about this when I went? Because honestly when me and my boyfriend went to Singapore two years ago we just did the basic touristy stuff and called it a night by like 9 PM. Which now feels like such a waste.
So she’s showing me photos on her phone (we were at this cafe, I was drinking the worst cappuccino ever but anyway) and I’m genuinely shocked at how much stuff happens in Singapore after dark. Like the city completely transforms? And if you’re going with your partner, especially for something special like a honeymoon or anniversary, you’re missing out BIG TIME if you don’t do the night stuff.
Let me back up though. My cousin Priya and her husband Arjun did this whole Singapore thing as part of some package deal. I think she said it was a Singapore honeymoon package or something, but they went for anniversary so… I guess those packages work for any couple thing? (Does that make sense or is honeymoon package specifically for honeymoons? I never know.) Point is, their travel agent apparently knew what was up with the romantic night scene.
The Marina Bay thing that everyone does but still hits different
Okay so obviously everyone knows about Marina Bay Sands. I’ve seen it in a million Instagram posts. But here’s what nobody told me – going there at night is a completely different experience than during the day. Like, completely.
They have this light and water show called Spectra. It’s free, which shocked me because Singapore is expensive as hell usually. The show happens at like 8 PM and 9 PM (maybe 9:30 PM on weekends? I might be wrong). And Priya said watching it with all the lights reflecting on the water while holding hands or whatever… yeah, it’s corny but she got emotional about it. She’s not usually the sappy type so that’s saying something.
But here’s my hot take – I think the Marina Bay area is actually better appreciated just walking around AFTER the show. When it’s like 10 PM and things are quieter. Everyone rushes to see Spectra and then leaves, but if you just wander around the waterfront when it’s less crowded? That’s the move. We didn’t do this and I regret it.
Gardens by the Bay at night (this one surprised me)
So Gardens by the Bay. During the day it’s hot and crowded and you’re sweating through your shirt. At night though? Priya said it was like being in some sci-fi movie. They have these Supertree things (they’re like giant metal tree structures, hard to explain) that do a light show.
The show is called Garden Rhapsody and it happens twice at night. I think 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM? Something like that. And apparently you can lie down on the grass and watch the lights with music and it’s actually romantic instead of cheesy. Though I feel like it depends on the music they play that night because if it’s bad music it could totally ruin the vibe.
Wait, let me think about what else she mentioned… Oh yeah, the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome are open until late too. Like 9 PM I think. And there’s way fewer people at night. They paid around… ₹2500 per person maybe? For the conservatories. Might have been ₹3000. Singapore prices are confusing because I never remember the exchange rate.
Here’s something I didn’t know – you can actually have dinner on top of one of the Supertrees. There’s a restaurant up there. It’s probably insanely expensive (she didn’t tell me the price which means it was definitely insanely expensive) but imagine eating dinner like 50 meters in the air with the Singapore skyline around you. I would have panic attack honestly because I’m scared of heights but for people who aren’t… yeah.
Clarke Quay isn’t just for partying apparently
Okay confession time – when I went to Singapore I completely wrote off Clarke Quay because I thought it was just clubs and bars for young people getting drunk. And like, it IS that. But Priya said if you go to the right places at the right time, it’s actually super romantic?
They did this river cruise thing at night. Just a bumboat (is that what it’s called? I might be remembering this wrong) that goes along the Singapore River. You see all the colonial buildings lit up, the bridges, the skyline… takes like 40 minutes I think. And it’s quiet enough that you can actually talk, unlike being in a loud restaurant.
The thing is though – and this is important – timing matters. They went around 7 PM when the sun was just setting. Later than that and apparently it gets too dark to see some stuff clearly. Earlier and you miss the city lights coming on. So there’s like this sweet spot.
Also there’s a million restaurants along the riverside. They ate at this place… I can’t remember the name. Italian food. She said it was good but not amazing, which honestly sounds about right for Singapore. I’ve noticed the food there is either incredibly authentic and amazing or trying too hard and just okay. No in between.
Sentosa after dark is wild (in a good way)
Here’s something that genuinely surprised me – Sentosa Island at night. Because during the day Sentosa is like… beaches and Universal Studios and very family-oriented vibe. But night time? Different energy completely.
They have this show called Wings of Time. It’s on the beach, happens at like 7:40 PM and 8:40 PM. Water fountains, lasers, fire effects, the whole deal. Priya said it’s very dramatic and theatrical. I would probably find it a bit over the top honestly (I’m not huge on these big production shows) but she loved it. And you’re sitting on the beach watching it which is pretty cool.
But the real gem according to her – and I’m kicking myself for not knowing this existed – is the cable car night ride. You can take the cable car from Mount Faber to Sentosa at night and the views are ridiculous. The whole city lit up, the harbor, the ships… Takes maybe 15-20 minutes? They did this around 9 PM and she said it was the highlight of their trip.
The cable car costs like… ₹2000 per person? Maybe ₹2500? I really should have asked her to check exact prices but we were talking and I forgot. But whatever, it’s probably worth it for the experience.
The Night Safari thing that everyone recommends (and yeah okay fine it’s good)
I’m probably gonna sound super predictable here but the Night Safari is actually worth doing. Even though every single Singapore tour package for couple mentions it and it feels very touristy. Sometimes touristy things are touristy because they’re actually good? (Does that sound defensive? I feel defensive about this.)
It’s the world’s first nocturnal zoo apparently. You go after sunset and see animals that are active at night. Takes like 2-3 hours to do the whole thing. They have a tram that takes you around, plus walking trails.
Priya said the best part wasn’t even the animals though. It was walking the trails at night with just small lights and sounds of the jungle around them. Very atmospheric. Made them feel like they were on some adventure together instead of just tourists following a guidebook.
One thing to know – it gets BUSY. Like really busy. They booked tickets in advance as part of their Singapore package for couple deal (or maybe it was Singapore honeymoon tour package? She used different names for it and I got confused). Anyway, book ahead. Don’t just show up.
Random night food adventures (the unplanned stuff)
Okay so this is where Priya’s trip got really good in my opinion. They didn’t just do organized activities. They also just… wandered around at night looking for food.
Newton Food Centre apparently is open late. Until like midnight or 1 AM. It’s a hawker centre (outdoor food court basically) and at night it’s less intense than during dinner rush. They got chili crab at like 10:30 PM. Sat outside eating crab and getting messy and laughing about it. That sounds more romantic to me than some fancy restaurant honestly. But I’m biased because I hate fancy restaurants. (People are gonna hate me for this but fancy restaurants stress me out. Too many forks.)
Lau Pa Sat is another hawker centre that’s open late and apparently comes alive at night with satay stalls on the street. The smell of BBQ meat everywhere. They went there around 9 PM and just ate way too much food. Sometimes the best romantic experiences aren’t planned, you know?
The cocktail bar situation
Singapore has like a million rooftop bars. CE LA VI at Marina Bay Sands is the famous one everyone talks about. Priya and Arjun went there but said it was super crowded and drinks were ₹1500+ each. They stayed for one drink for the view and then left.
They found this other place called Lantern Bar (I think that’s the name?) on top of a hotel in Chinatown. Less famous, still great views, drinks were like ₹800-900. Still expensive but better. And way less crowded so they could actually sit and talk.
Hot take alert – I think the super famous rooftop bars in Singapore are overrated. You’re paying for the Instagram photo more than the actual experience. Go to a slightly less famous place and you’ll have a better time. (Am I wrong about this? Maybe. But that’s my opinion.)
Things I wish someone had told me before
Okay so based on Priya’s experience and my own regrets from my Singapore trip, here’s what I think people should know:
Singapore at night is HOT. Like really hot and humid. You’re gonna sweat. Dress accordingly. I made the mistake of wearing jeans one evening and wanted to die.
Night activities are spread out all over the city. You’ll need to take Grab (their Uber) or MRT a lot. Budget time for transit. It adds up.
Some places are way more expensive at night than during day. Bars especially. Check prices before committing.
Book stuff in advance when possible. Singapore is popular and things fill up. Priya’s travel agent handled this for them which is probably why their Singapore honeymoon tours went smoothly. When I went we were just figuring it out day by day and kept finding things were sold out.
The weather can ruin plans. It rains suddenly sometimes. Have backup indoor options.
You don’t need to do everything. Pick like 3-4 night activities max. Otherwise you’ll be exhausted and it stops being romantic and starts being a checklist.
Should you actually do this stuff?
Look, I’m probably biased because I regret not doing more night stuff when I went. But talking to Priya and seeing her photos… yeah. If you’re going to Singapore as a couple, especially for something special, the night experiences are where it’s at.
The city looks completely different after dark. It’s less chaotic somehow? More intimate. Even though there’s still people everywhere, it feels more like you’re in your own bubble.
Is it expensive? Yeah. Singapore is expensive period. But if you’re already paying for Singapore honeymoon tours deals or whatever, a lot of this stuff might be included or discounted. And honestly the free stuff like Spectra and just walking around Marina Bay at night costs nothing.
I think my main regret is treating Singapore like it shut down after dinner. It doesn’t. Some of the best stuff happens between 8 PM and midnight. And if you’re with someone you love, experiencing that together is… yeah. It’s worth it.
Anyway I’m rambling and I need to go grocery shopping before the store closes. But seriously, if you’re planning a trip there, don’t skip the night stuff. Learn from my mistakes lol.
