Ahmedabad Is Quietly Hiring Faster Than Most of India Realises in 2026 | Lifenavi.com

Last month a founder told me he’d hired three engineers in Ahmedabad before he could close a single offer in Bengaluru. That’s not a one-off anymore.

If you still think of Ahmedabad as a textile-and-pharma town, you’re about three years behind.

The city has been one of the quieter winners of India’s hiring shake-up in 2026. No “next Bengaluru” think-piece. No dramatic announcements. Just a steady, almost boring expansion that’s now starting to make HR directors elsewhere nervous.

Let me walk you through what’s actually happening on the ground.

The view from SG Highway

Spend a week walking around SG Highway and Prahlad Nagar today and the difference from 2022 is obvious.

Glass towers that were half-empty are now leased. There are real queues outside the food courts at lunch. Co-working spaces are running waitlists. The to-let boards on commercial buildings have thinned out.

The reasons aren’t mysterious. Office space is still cheaper than Mumbai. Salaries are 30–40% below Bengaluru for similar roles. Attrition is lower. Commutes are bearable. And companies that opened a small office “just to test it” in 2023 are now hiring at scale because the test worked.

That last bit is the part most people miss. Ahmedabad isn’t being discovered. It’s being expanded into.

What’s actually getting hired

Five layers of demand are doing the heavy lifting right now.

IT services and product engineering. Full-stack devs, data engineers, DevOps, UI/UX, increasingly AI-fluent product roles. Global SaaS captives have multiplied. Indian IT services firms are setting up Ahmedabad delivery teams instead of new Pune ones.

GIFT City and finance. This was supposed to be a “wait and see” play five years ago. It isn’t anymore. International banks, fund managers, fintechs, bullion-exchange firms — all hiring, at salary bands that are starting to make Mumbai-based finance professionals genuinely consider the move.

Semiconductors and advanced manufacturing. Tata Electronics. Micron’s Sanand facility. The Dholera SIR. All within an hour of the city. Operations, supply chain, quality engineering, plant management — entire job categories that didn’t really exist in Gujarat at this scale three years ago.

Startups. The Ahmedabad startup scene has had enough liquidity events now that founders and senior operators aren’t fleeing to Bengaluru anymore. They’re staying and hiring locally. That changes the whole pipeline.

Sales & marketing jobs in Ahmedabad. This is the layer nobody talks about, and honestly it’s the most under-priced. Every IT, finance, startup and manufacturing hire creates downstream demand for B2B sales, digital marketing, content, brand and growth. The Ahmedabad market for these roles is deeper than most national recruiters know, and the candidates are cheaper than Mumbai or Bengaluru with comparable skill.

The remote piece, which is bigger than it looks

Here’s something the office-real-estate numbers miss completely.

A growing share of jobs in Ahmedabad in 2026 don’t involve an Ahmedabad office at all.

WFH jobs in Ahmedabad are now a default option across IT services, content, design and customer success. Online jobs in Ahmedabad — freelance, contract, platform work — have grown alongside, particularly among women returning to the workforce and people who moved back to Gujarat from a metro and refused to give up national-band salaries.

For employers, this is the part to pay attention to. You don’t have to relocate anyone. You don’t have to open an office. You just have to source from the city and be fine with good talent working from a flat in Bopal instead of HSR Layout.

Most of you are already doing this for other cities. Ahmedabad just hasn’t shown up on the default sourcing list yet.

Why 2026 specifically

A few things are converging at the same time.

Cost discipline is back. Marketing budgets are tighter. Engineering budgets are tighter. Boards are asking why mid-senior engineering hires need to cost what they cost in the South.

At the same time, the infrastructure objections that used to keep companies away from Ahmedabad have quietly disappeared. The airport is expanded. The metro is operational across the corridors that matter. The Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train work is far enough along to influence multi-year planning. State policy on startups, semiconductors and IT has been consistent long enough for companies to actually rely on it.

Add it all up and Ahmedabad in 2026 looks roughly like Pune did in 2014. Not yet priced in. About to be.

Where SMEs are actually posting these roles

One piece of this nobody talks about: where Ahmedabad’s growing-business layer is posting their roles.

The big national job portals are great for some hires. They’re overkill for many others. If you’re a 40-person services business hiring two B2B sales executives or three customer-success associates, paying for a premium listing on a national portal is the wrong tool. You want local intent, you want it free, and you want it inside a platform candidates use for other things too — services, marketplace, business directory.

That’s the gap free job posting websites in India have been filling, and it’s why classifieds-plus-jobs platforms have grown faster than pure job portals in tier-2 hiring over the last two years.

Lifenavi is one of them. Free to list, India-wide reach, jobs in Ahmedabad across IT, sales & marketing, WFH, freshers and onsite — and the listings sit inside a broader local discovery experience that candidates use for other things too.

If the big portals have become an expensive habit and you’re hiring locally, this is at least worth adding to your stack.

The honest summary

Ahmedabad in 2026 is no longer the back-up plan when Bengaluru gets too expensive.

For a lot of companies I talk to, it’s now the first plan. The recruiters who’ve already integrated it into sourcing are quietly outperforming the ones still hoping the South Indian markets will cool off on their own.

If you’re hiring this quarter and Ahmedabad isn’t on your default sourcing list, that’s the change to make.

If you’re a job seeker reading this — there are more openings, less competition, and your salary stretches a lot further than it does in Mumbai or Bengaluru. The math is genuinely in your favour right now.
